we are in mobile track 7 in old town alexandria. the bumping us, about six to eight inches of snow on some of these roads. as you get to more traveled roads where we have seen some of that traffic move through, we are starting to see more pavement as you move into those areas. is different wherever you are traveling in terms of what you might see in road conditions. we also saw a number of police blocking some streets and a plow has not been able -- that a plow has not been able to get down yet. this is one of the situations. a side street here in old town alexandria. a plow has not touched any of this. we still have nearly two feet of snow that remains in the center of the roadway here. drivers are trying to plow -- dig out the cars with shovels. the road has not been plowed. just down the street, a different situation. one lane of traffic, really able to get by as we start to see cars in front of us. we will pull over and let that traffic get by. many other still remain blocked. those travel lanes that are going to be impacted by

three days now and there are neighborhoods like this one in alexandria that have not seen a plow. these neighbor, these residents are stranded. now i'm going to give you a sense standing in the middle of the road. take a look. know is crusty. i don't know if i'll break through it or not. this is what the plows have to get through and these residents are being told they may not see a plow maybe until tomorrow so a lot of them dug out their driveways which is good news but 16 of the 42 deaths so far related to this storm have been from shoveling. overnight, firefighters struggling through unplowed streets to reach some borrow fortunately no one injured. it's now more than 55 hours since the blizzard ended and the washington, d.c. area still partially crippled. much of the trouble in the surround suburbs. some homeowners trapped on the streets untouched since friday being told they may not see a plow until tomorrow. >> plowing went down the drain and they did not have plan b. >> reporter: the weight of all that standing snow has claimed its share of roofs. in silver spring, maryland,
